I think, after haiku month is over, that I'll give it another look. The problem was always with me rather than the story. I felt it was good, but not something that spoke to me, but I really don't think I've read it since I wrote that initial post on it. I'll give it a try and I'll see if I've become a person who can appreciate it now.
I didn't like "Rose" the first time I read it, but that was because I was 13 or 14 at the time and of course I didn't understand the story -- it went right over my head. All those lit'ry allusions and poetry and such, and what the fuck is an Ecclesiast anyway? Fortunately I had another go at it years later and was astonished -- both at how good the story was, and at how ignorant I was as a teenager. (Course now that I've achieved middle age I realize that I'm still an ignorant teenager, only now most of my hair has fallen out.)
Heh heh heh.
