SCIENCE FICTION LAND Cancelled

Well, this is disappointing. Due to legal circumstances beyond their control, Flatbush Pictures isn't going to be able to go through with Science Fiction Land. That's a real shame. It looked like it was going to be great, a documentary look at the events behind ARGO, with emphasis on Jack Kirby and Roger Zelazny's contributions.

  1. It's a real shame. I don't know what happened, but I wonder if some of the people involved in the Lord of Light theme park and motion picture fiasco weren't so comfortable about having the facts dredged up again concerning the police raid that shut everything down. A legal problem that prevents the project from being completed is very suspicious for that possibility, especially when they're not even permitted to say what the reason is. I doubt it's something to do with the CIA's use of the script and artwork since details of that mission were declassified and published years ago.

    1. I hadn't heard about the police raid until you mentioned it.

    2. I'm referring to the police raid -- attributed to be FBI, but it was only state police -- that shut down the development of the Lord of Light theme park and motion picture back in 1979. Multiple individuals arrested, including not only key members of the theme park and movie production team, but members of the Aurora town council (where the park was supposed to have been built). This is well documented in several articles, including the one that I wrote last year for NYRSF (I thought you read that one). What I was saying in my comment above is that I wonder if one or more of those people may not have been keen on having their names and alleged actions discussed in a documentary, and if that's the legal action that stopped the documentary with a gag order.
